Buffalo Games (Nov '07) as answered by Jon Leahy & John Bell
Q - What are Buffalo Game's greatest hits, and how would you describe your line of games overall?
A - Our greatest hits are currently ImaginIFF, and Last Word board games, in addition to Monster Maker card game. We primarily focus on party and family games that promote making life more fun and rewarding. Laughter is a cornerstone of our brand.

Q - Is there anything currently that you are looking for that is different than what you have done in the past?
A - You bet! We are always open to looking at games from every genre. As a matter of fact, we will be releasing our first family strategy game in the upcoming year.

Q - How many games do you or your company review in a year?
A - We'll look at every game that is submitted to us. In the past year we've reviewed over 300 games.

Q - How many games does your company usually release in a year?
A - It varies from year to year. In 2008 we'll be releasing 4 new exciting games.

Q - Do you look at games by unknown inventors?
A - Of course! You never know where the next big hit will come from.

Q - For beginning inventors, what would be the ideal way to approach and submit game ideas to you?
A - Always put your best foot forward. You only get one chance to make a first impression. Familiarize yourself with our company, make sure that your prototype is playable, and the instructions are clear and concise. It also helps to submit any other information that supports the viability of your idea.

Q - How long does it take from the time you receive a submission to the time you say 'yes' or 'no'?
A - We try to give feedback within a month after reviewing the concept. If we pass on the concept we let inventors know right away so they can look for other opportunities. If we wish to review the game further, it may take up to three to four months.

Q - Does it depend on the time of the year, and if 'yes', what times of the year are best to submit?
A - We typically make our product selections in the spring for the following year. So we prefer to look at things as early in the year as possible. However, we'll still review games all year long.

Q - What is the most common mistake you see from inventors?
A - That's easy. The biggest mistake is when inventors try to re-invent the wheel. Submitting a slight variation of an existing game is not the best approach. Buffalo Games is looking for a fun, fresh, innovative concept.

Q - If you were to give beginning inventors one bit of advice, what would it be?
A - Do the homework, know the company that you're presenting to, and believe in your concept. Always remember, what may not be the best fit for one company, might be a perfect match for another company.
